Nest - Helping the homeless

Helping People Take the First Step Out of Homelessness

At Nest Helping the Homeless, we provide practical support to people in Calderdale who are experiencing homelessness – or who are starting again after being homeless.

About Nest

A Small Charity Making a Big Difference

Nest is a local charity run by a dedicated team of volunteers in Calderdale, West Yorkshire. We support people who are street homeless with rucksacks filled with essentials like sleeping bags, sleeping mats, bivvy bags, warm clothing, toiletries and flasks.

For those moving into new accommodation, we provide home starter packs – including things like a microwave, kettle, toaster, bedding and basic kitchenware – to help turn an empty space into a home.

We’re passionate about kindness, dignity, and making sure no one is left behind.

Colin’s Story – From Crisis to Compassion

When Colin found himself homeless, life became a daily struggle for survival. Cold nights, hunger, loneliness – and at one point, the loss of hope so deep that he nearly didn’t make it through. But Colin’s story didn’t end there:

What We Do

We focus on two key areas of support:

Rucksacks for Rough Sleepers

Each rucksack contains essentials to help someone survive the night and stay safe – including a sleeping bag, sleeping mat, bivvy bag, warm clothing, toiletries and a flask .

Home Starter Packs

When someone moves into housing after being homeless, we help them get started with the basics – from kitchen appliances to cleaning supplies. These items are often the difference between just having a roof and truly beginning to settle.

We work closely with local organisations, housing providers and frontline workers to get support directly to those who need it most.
